Bernie inspires future Javelin Olympian

Bernie inspired a future Javelin star Michael Madeloso from Liverpool when Michael met this hero Steve Backley OBE at the House of Lords.

Steve gave Michael some amazing coaching advice & presented him with a pair of personalized shoes & kit along with a copy of his best selling book.

Steve Backley OBE retired from the Javelin immediately after the 2004 Olympics, where he finished 4th. This ended a stellar career, which included 3 Olympic medals, 2 Silvers and a Bronze, 2 World Championship Silvers, 4 European gold medals and 4 Commonwealth medals – 3 Golds and a Silver.

Steve broke the world record in 1990, throwing a massive 89.88m; he then went on to further this distance at Crystal Palace in the same year to 90.88m.
